Making your own cleaning solutions can give you a sense of self-reliance if you can't get to a store for your usual favorite cleaner. I have crafted several cleaning solutions to help you with cleaning all around the house, and some tips on how to use pantry items in ways you never thought possible to make your home sparkle, to save you money and to keep your home free of chemicals.

General Tips for Making DIY Cleaners

  • Mix cleaning solutions in small batches. Since there are no preservatives added, mixing too much at once can cause the cleaner to lose potency.

  • Add your favorite essential oil to give a fresh scent.

  • Label every bottle including the ingredients. This is particularly important if you reuse spray bottles or something that could be mistaken as a food container.

Make Your Own All-Purpose Cleaner

What You'll Need

  • 1 cup distilled white vinegar

  • 1 cup water

  • Strips of lemon zest, Orange Zest, Lime Zest, Grapefruits Zest and Fresh herbs.

Combine the ingredients in a mason jar and let them sit for a week and then strain them into your glass or plastic reusable spray bottle.

Tip

For stubborn stains and dried-on messes, sprinkle a bit of baking soda on the area first and then spritz with the cleaner. There will be a bit of fizzing to help loosen the stain so you can wipe it away with a microfiber.

Uses

  • Clean hard surfaces like kitchen and bathroom counters

  • Freshen trashcans

  • Remove water spots on counters

  • Remove fingerprints on walls

WARNING

Do not use this cleaner on marble, the acid content can etch the stone.

In a future blog I will be teaching you how to make your own marble cleaner.

I love to add Fresh Basil to my household cleaner bottle not only does it create an incredible added scent blended with the citrus, it also it very easy to remove with a skewer when it is time to refill the bottle and start all over again.

Organic cleaning supplies and all-natural cleaners are to expensive and not always truly good for your home.

What’s more, you can and should try making DIY cleaning products to see for yourself just how economical and effective natural cleaning agents can be. Vinegar, water, and baking soda makes for a fantastic, all-purpose cleaning product and costs almost nothing. Missing that fresh, clean home smell? Try adding a natural fragrance, such as antibacterial tea tree or lavender, to your DIY cleaning sprays for an extra boost, but I must say the citrus scent is a very light and clean smell.

Last but not least By switching to all-natural cleaners, you can create a safer home for your family, help protect the planet, and even save money at the same time!

Next week I will be teaching you about Glass Cleaner.
